MallowPuffs – CandyCane

On the 4th day of sh1tmas…

Here is how MallowPuffs are capitalising on Christmas, putting some mint flavour in their biscuits and calling them ‘CandyCane’.

There is not much that is more Christmas than candy cane. But what has a cane got to do with anything? Did Santa Claus eat mint flavoured candy sticks in Bethlehem under a pine tree? Stay tuned as, in a very special Christmas post, we explore the true meaning behind probably the most iconic of yule confectionaries, the candied cane.

It all started way back when Christian first started putting valuable sh1t in their evergreen trees to a̶p̶p̶e̶a̶s̶e̶ the D̶e̶m̶o̶n̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶W̶i̶n̶t̶e̶r̶ -̶ ̶T̶h̶e̶ ̶G̶r̶e̶a̶t̶ ̶C̶o̶l̶d̶ ̶O̶n̶e̶ ̶-̶ ̶D̶e̶s̶t̶r̶o̶y̶e̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶C̶r̶o̶p̶s̶ I mean, celebrate the birth of Christ. Sugared cookies and hard sugar ‘sticks’ were popular ornaments in such times.

Then in 1670 ish the choirmaster at the Cologne Cathedral in Germany, sorry I don’t know his name, started bending the end of them to represent a shepherd’s crook and giving them to the children to keep them silent during long, boring, Christmas time services.

Next major development was the early 1900’s when red stripes started to appear on the previously perfectly white canes – later cemented by ‘Bobs Candies’ in 1919. The reason has been lost in time, but I like to believe it had something to do with bleeding like on the barber pole perhaps it is related to the ̶b̶l̶o̶o̶d̶ ̶s̶a̶c̶r̶i̶f̶i̶c̶e̶ d̶e̶m̶a̶n̶d̶e̶d̶ ̶b̶y̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶G̶r̶e̶a̶t̶ ̶C̶o̶l̶d̶ ̶O̶n̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶b̶r̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶w̶a̶r̶m̶e̶r̶ ̶w̶e̶a̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ I mean, the purity of the blood of Christ

Mallowpuffs are pretty damn good in the standard form and I am happy to report that the addition of mint, and not just mint, a specifically candy cane style of mint, has worked perfectly to morph the Mallowpuff into a product worthy of cashing in on the Christmas market.

Not sure exactly how to describe ‘ candy cane mint’. Perhaps a hint of spearmint or wintergreen flavouring… However accomplished, this superposition of candied cane to the Mallowpuff is like a Christmas miracle.
