Domino’s – El Scorcho

So I noticed recently that Domino’s NZ appears to have updated the menu on their website. I am not sure if it has been actually updated, but there are a whole bunch of red starburst stickers all over the place with the word ‘new’ printed inside. Been a while since I had a domino’s pizza so I am going to take them at their word and assume that this sh1t is actually ‘new’.

So many to choose from…

First, I, of course scrolled down to the bottom of the menu where they have put all of the cheap sh1t, which they call: ‘extra value’.

The really cheap sh1t is just called ‘value’, and one only orders from this menu if they are waiting for work, WINZ or Studylink to pay them, or if you are ordering for a function that you need a lot of food for cheap, but you don’t really give a sh1t about, like a children’s birthday party.

The pizza that caught my eye first and also happened to be one of the cheapest on the extra value was the ‘El Scorcho’, which loosely translates from Spanish as: ‘The Scorcho’. It boasts: pepperoni, beef, jalapenos, tomatoes and a sprinkling of chilli flakes. Sounds like a bit of me. I am fond of all those things.

The arrival of my food heralded a response similar to those recorded in Pavlo’s dog experiments and I flipped open the lid of the pizza box to discover a fairly decent looking pizza contained within.

It tasted pretty decent too. Beef, pepperoni and jalapenos of course go very well with tomato and the tomato based sauce and there was a reasonable spread of ingredients atop this doughy disc. It did have an excellent peppery, spicy flavour, but even with the chilli flakes, I didn’t really think it was hot enough to earn the title of ‘El Scorcho’ – I would be more likely to name it ‘El Singe-o’.  Not the greatest pizza I have ever had, but at NZ$8.99 (which translates loosely into NZ$9.00) I was impressed.

Frugally fiery – 7/10
