Whittaker’s Banana Caramel

Fine, I’ll do it. Everyone else is.

If everyone else was jumping off of a cliff would I do that too?

Yes. If there was Whittaker’s chocolate with banana infused caramel at the bottom of it, I would.

I doth protest too much, I actually wanted to try this as banana chocolate is a favourite flavour of mine and Whittaker’s is a favourite chocolate of mine and I have been seeing it all over social media for 2 agonising days now without having experienced it myself. It is limited edition too, so if I don’t try it, I will never get the chance.

I am, of course, totally aware that this is a marketing strategy based on scarcity, but that doesn’t make it any less effective on me.

I bit into a square or 7 and it was good. You should know what Whittaker’s chocolate tastes like by now, so it tastes like that. Initially. But then a smooth banana flavour comes through, subtle but definite, oh and very sweet. The experience ended with another distinct flavour, this time caramel as I ran my tongue over my teeth to remove the sugary coating left behind.

Checking out the millions of reviews online about this sh1t that I have seen before today, – okay it was only like 20, but it felt like millions because I was seething with jealousy- I kept hearing it said that this tasted like a top shelf Perky Nana. I really didn’t want to say the same thing, I wanted to add something new to the conversation, but it does. It also kind of reminds me of the taste of them dry, powdery marshmallow banana things, not the texture of course, but the taste.

Which I am told is the taste of a flavour ester known as isoamyl acetate. Checking the ingredient list (I love checking the ingredient list!) I discovered that the banana caramel encased in the chocolate actually contains real banana puree! And apple puree. And natural flavours, which could actually include my new friend, isoamyl acetate, because it naturally occurs in plant matter including both bananas and apples.

I would unreservedly recommend giving this a try if you should have the opportunity, it is a delicious success in my books.
