It’s been hot as sh1t and I was out looking for some cold drinks, specifically energy drinks to use in a pic for my website – which I could then drink to cool down and buzz off the caffeine for a bit whilst I tried to get some ideas down as a start to the coming year.
As I opened the drinks fridge and started to greedily grab up all the drinks that caught my fancy, my fancy was suddenly caught harder, entrapped by a large purple cylinder adorned with the great ‘V’ logo.
I picked up the icy cold can, moisture already starting to condense and bead on the surface of the metal and examined my find. Grape Burst V Energy Drink. Excellent! I love grape flavour. And sh1t yeah, this is a full sugared variety! I love sugar.
I quickly walked to the counter knocking over a chip display in my haste and made my purchase. The fellow behind the counter grinned knowingly as he scanned the V and informed me that he had received one shipment and sold out in 1 day and this was part of the next shipment that he had put on the shelf earlier.
He also informed me that this was exclusive to the convenience sector and wouldn’t be appearing in the supermarkets. This turned out NOT to be true at all- you can get them everywhere now, but to be fair, I didn’t look up from the can and my ears were buzzing from the pulsing rush of blood caused by my excitement.
I hardly remember the trip home, such was my level of anticipation and opening this unexpected boon filled the air with magical grape coloured scent trails – actually I was still light headed from increased blood pressure and potential heat stroke so that was likely a hallucination.
The taste was EXACTLY what I had expected, nay hoped for: it tasted like a super sweet grape soda accented with a tangy energy drink sour aftertaste. I have heard others describe the taste like a certain grape bubblegum and to be fair that is perfectly accurate because I think grape bubblegum tastes much like a good grape soda and that is what we have here with added energy drink kick tacked on as a bonus.
