V has now got an energy drink in the best flavour, watermelon.
Okay so not just watermelon – pineapple is okay too.
I managed to find a small patch of sun this weekend to enjoy this new V and pulled the tab to the satisfying cracking sound of unleashed carbonation as a small wisp reared up from the can in a query mark of vapour.
Inhaling deeply I savored the acidic tang of imitation fruit flavours and brought the can to my lips pouring deeply into my mouth and smacking my lips against the sourness.
I could taste pineapple in the first draught and chasing the strong flavour a more subtle – watermelon? – no… More like a bitter cloying chemical taste that coagulated my saliva and coated my teeth, mouth and back of my throat.
Argh!! What the sh1t? I thrust the can away from me and with a grimace of disgust on my previously eager lips, I turned the can at arms length to better read the text:
Zero Sugar? 6 Calories per can?
What is a Calorie? What could these ominous statements mean?
A calorie is a unit of energy equal to 4.184 kJ. 6 Calories is a mere 25.104 kJ.
That isn’t really very much. For comparison, 250mL of Coca Cola has a whopping 450 kJ of energy. 18 times the energy of this so called ‘energy drink’!!
Even the humble apple at 300kJ has more energy than this.
My hand involuntarily opened, dropping the can to the ground. This isn’t an energy drink, it is a diet drink with added stimulants and B vitamins.
And that horrible aftertaste was a combination of Erythritol and sucralose two common sweeteners used instead of sugar.
Tasted of energy drink and pineapple – couldn’t detect any watermelon. Ruined for me by the bitter aftertaste of sweeteners.
To be fair to V, this drink isn’t really created with me in mind. Anyone out there tried this and don’t mind the taste of sweeteners? What did you think?
Breaking: I have been informed that there is another flavour, citrus lemonade and it tastes like soap.

Cut the sh1t:
Is V Refresh Pineapple and Watermelon any good?
I didn’t like it because it was zero sugar – if you are ok with the taste (aftertaste) of sweeteners it might be for you. Tasted like an energy drink. Strong pineapple flavour, couldn’t taste watermelon at all.

Hi Jack,
had to edit your insightful comment sorry.
On this site when we use offensive words like ‘tw4t’ and ‘sh1t’ it is important to substitute a number instead of a letter. I just changed the ‘a’ to a ‘4’.
I think that everyone should still be able to interpret it and that the true meaning of your welcome and well thought out comment has been retained.
