The Havanna Alfajor

The Havanna Alfajor. This little piece was anonymously delivered to me all the way from Argentina before the lockdown and I have no idea what it is.Up until now I had never heard of Havanna, but turns out it is actually a pretty big deal in the food production world. Based in Argentina, one of it’s more famous products is Alfajores. I had never heard of Alfajores either, and it turns out this is a big deal too. Oh what a life I have led, sheltered from the foodstuffs of the Latin Americas and parts of Europe. This luxurious chunk of what I hope is chocolate is strictly controlled and in Spain, at least, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has given the following strict guidelines as to what can be called an Alfajor:.“... según el reglamento, se emplearán exclusivamente miel pura de abeja, avellanas, almendras, pan rallado, harina, azúcar y especias (matalauva, cilantro, ajonjolí, clavo y canela). Los alfajores tendrán forma cilíndrica, con un peso mínimo de 30 gramos por unidad, con un tamaño mínimo de siete centímetros de longitud y un diámetro mínimo de 1,5 centímetros.”.¿en inglés?Oh sorry!.... according to the regulation, pure bee honey, hazelnuts, almonds, breadcrumbs, flour, sugar and spices (matalauva, coriander, sesame, cloves and cinnamon) will be used exclusively. The alfajores will have a cylindrical shape, with a minimum weight of 30 grams per unit, with a minimum size of seven centimeters in length and a minimum diameter of 1.5 centimeters.Additionally it has to be packaged individually in wax paper or similar before being boxed in ONLY cardboard or wooden boxes. Never plastic.Damn they ain’t messing about with this shit..Biting into this thing was pure pleasure. The 70% cacao chocolate did it’s job offsetting the sweetness with bitterness, really damn delicious and the caramel was a nice little punctuation, but the main feature of this shit for me was the texture. It was soft, smooth and crumbly, a little chewy, kind of like cookie dough or a well made brownie. I am actually a bit lost for words at how good this was. If you get the chance to try one, do so.The Alfajor and Omegajor - 9/10#alfajores #cookie #biscuit
