Well it seems to be a new fashion trend to make shit taste like a hamburger at the moment. I am not complaining, in fact I support it wholeheartedly. I love hamburgers.
The last I tried went for a cheeseburger flavour, but Snax here is trying to replicate the flavour of an ‘all American burger’. You got to appreciate going all in, it is much easier to aim for a ‘partial American hamburger’ and to be honest most burger flavoured snacks only partially taste of burgers, so I have high expectations from Snax.
The problem so far with shit that is supposed to taste of burger is not the flavour itself, but the amount of flavour. As I mentioned in a previous post, American culture tends to be overstated, not subtle and calling something ‘all American’ without a strong decisive flavour just isn’t American.
I know from previous cracker flavours that too much cracker and not enough flavour is often a problem. If this shit has subtle flavouring and not enough of it, I am going to be left with a plain cracker and a bad temper.
When I first tore open the package my olfactory organs were assaulted with an acidic smell of pickles. An excellent start, I couldn’t last very long before I had to start jamming some into my mouth and…
They actually tasted of burger.
Yes, Snax got it correct here.
It tasted of pickles and mustard mostly with a hint of ketchup and onion. I didn’t get the flavour of the actual hamburger meat too strongly, but due to the flavours that were strongly present, my mind easily filled in the gap. The flavour of the cracker itself was slightly sweet and almost came across as them yellow buns what they make hamburgers from. Brioche?
As I devoured my way through the package it hit me that these tasted very much like a McDonalds cheeseburger. Can’t get much more ‘all American’ than that, I suppose. If you haven’t had Snax Crunchies before, I would just like to mention the near perfect texture of the cracker. This, combined with this excellent take on burger flavour makes these some real good shit.
Snaxburger please, extra pickle – 8.5/10
