Scorching Chilli Hot Sauce from Kmart.
I was in Kmart for some ungodly reason and rounded an aisle to come face to face with one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Staring into the glassy eyes of this masterpiece, I just knew we were meant to be together.
In case this hasn’t come across in the photo well enough, or in case your mind just can’t grasp the magnificence of this vision, this shit is a massive 680mL bottle in the shape of some sort of a devil and filled with hot sauce.
No idea what kind of hot sauce this was and suspected dubious quality, I could only see on the ingredient list that it was made from red chilli with other spices and shit. The price tag of only $12 made acquiring this curio a sure thing. Hell, I would pay $12 for the bottle itself with nothing in it-Suckers.
I felt just like Indiana Jones as I squatted in front of the shelves and weighed up the leather pouch in my hand, stroking my chin as I tried to guess if the weight of the gold inside would be enough to stop the alarms from triggering. Quickly, I made the swap and ran like hell glancing only once over my shoulder to make sure I wasn’t being pursued by giant boulders or security guards or whatever.
As soon as I got home, I twisted off the cap, (nice cap too rubber seal and everything) had a sniff (smelled of hot sauce) and took a big gulp. The hot sauce wasn’t terrible. Tasted of chilli in sort of a Louisiana style, maybe with less vinegar. It had a slight sour aftertaste more akin to sriracha though. It was a little on the thin side, but the shape of the bottle forces it to gurgle rather than pour, as long as I am careful, it doesn’t flood out too much. Not the greatest of pepper sauces, moderately hot, tastes cheap. Still not sure what type exactly this sauce is, but it goes alright on cheese sandwiches.
I haven’t managed to drink all of it yet, but the bottle is made from heavy, thick glass and I can’t wait to find a use for my devil’s head decanter when it is empty. What should I put in it? I might fill it with whiskey and use it as an Estus flask.
