Pop quiz – you have to get up early to go to the airport and you aren’t 100% sure if you are going to have time to make a coffee in the morning, what do you do?
Why, you grab some of this shit at the servo the night before and put it in the fridge for the next morning, of course. This shit is Coca-Cola’s – Batch Blends No.01 – Coffee & Chocolate.
This drink isn’t quite as super-charged as it might seem, it only has 35mg per can, which is considerably lower than a cup of coffee (95mg), but at least it has some caffeine. I am going to guess that this may be more of a late night drink rather than a morning pick me up. The lack of caffeine was not the only thing that I managed to miss from the labeling though…. I cracked the pull tab with my shaking hands. Don’t let the light in the photograph fool you, btw, it was very early – it seems like the damn sun gets up at 4am over here. And then the birds start screaming and screeching at you to get out of bed. I miss the calm, soothing hoots and cooing of NZ birds. I miss sleeping in.
Anyhow, this shit actually tasted really good. Really rich and intense. I was surprised how the bitterness of the coffee and chocolate combined with the familiar bitter flavour of old mate Coke. I wasn’t expecting it to be sweet but it actually….

What is this? England?
Why you got to take a perfectly good drink and ruin it like this? It actually surprised me how well the flavours went together, but then the strange, chemically, acrid aftertaste of the sweetener spoilt everything.
I know many of you out there are open to low/no sugar alternatives, so this product might be for you. My mouthparts have evolved to be able to detect 2 ppm of sweetner and it renders many drinks unpalatable to me. Some sweeteners are better than others, but I even find stevia tastes a bit wrong to me. Maybe one of you good folk with low sugar experience could try this shit and let me know what you think?
