Speaking of Moreish…
What about S’moreish?
I am pretty sure I have discussed it before, but I am so passionate about this subject that I am going to off again.
Some of my more avid fans will remember that I used to think that Moreish was some exotic word that I didn’t understand properly- my half understanding leading me to guess that it that meant sh1t was spiced in a manner similar to how folk from the Iberian Peninsula prepared their food. And that those flavours were superior in some way. That was before I learnt that it simply meant that people wanted ‘more’ of sh1t. A simpler time, before I let that fact drag me down into crushing depression that helped form my cynical disdain for the way we talk about food. more-ish. So stupid.
But if there if one thing that can conjure the same exasperated despair as that stupid word, it is the word ‘s’more’.
Guess the origin of the word s’more…
Yep, unfortunately you are completely correct – ‘some more’. As in: ‘this sh1t is so good that you will want SOME MORE’. Aaaand someone thought it would be cute to contract the name unnecessarily. But it isn’t cute, it is dumb.
Right, feels good to get that off my chest. Again. Having got that sh1t out of the system, I will say that s’mores are actually amazing. And this pie right here from Original Foods Baking Co. looks amazing too.
I was given two options in preparing this and I went for the ‘crispy’ option for the true s’more campfire experience, and threw it in the oven I even left it a minute or two longer to get the top nice and browned. It came out perfect – the marshmallows slightly browned but molten in the middle and the thick layer of dark chocolate in the middle of the pie was sufficiently flowing. Cookie base and crumbed cookie topping crunched toastily in contrast.
Very sweet and indulgent, but with enough depth and richness to the flavours. I very much enjoyed this. More of a full dessert than a snack, I would say. Even I couldn’t finish it completely and had it in two servings.
The cookie base, however tasted more like a traditional cookie and I didn’t really get the flavour of graham crackers which in my opinion is a big part of the s’more experience. Minor criticism, however, I would eat this again in a heartbeat.
Please, sir, I want s’more – 7/10
