Been great weather for ducks lately…
Not really – even they thought it was sh1t judging by the p1ssed off look on their tiny little faces. They don’t even have to take to the wing to get around anymore – most of Auckland is accessible by just floating about.
I was sick of the sh1t too, so this past weekend I went on a little trip to Duck Island, no not the beautiful Duck Island in Noumea. Nope, nor do I mean the picturesque Duck Island in Canada’s Lake Ontario. Actually I didn’t even go as far as Hamilton to visit Duck Island’s HQ.
I simply closed my eyes and quietly hummed to myself while rocking back and forth in the lounge with an open carton of Duck Islands Salted Caramel Cacao Crumb Ice Cream.
The sound of torrential rains pelting the windows began to fade and the sudden shudders as the house was rocked by powerful gusts seemed less of a concern as I was whisked away to a beautiful imaginary Duck Island of my mind…
A diminutive, mustachioed man dressed in a black tuxedo complete with white gloves greeted me. He introduced himself as ‘Cacao Crumb’, and handing me a spoon, told me he would be my guide here on Duck Island.
A quacking caused me to glance upwards at the clear orange sky as a flock of salty ducks flew by the rising moon in a ‘V” formation. I had to blink several times and shake my hair out as salt fell from the ducks in flight and sprinkled everything on the beach with a light dusting.
Crumb motioned towards the ground below and I saw the shore we were standing on was actually made of Caramel Ice Cream. I took my spoon and dug directly into the beach. I was happy here and stayed until the cyclone was over.
This ice cream was Caramel sweet, but offset by a real saltiness – not just a hint of salt, the real deal and I loved it. The ‘cacao crumbs’ added a nutty bitterness and a contrasting texture with an extra little crunch – I think that is the contribution of the ‘cacao nibs’ I see on the ingredient list.

yes. I found it to be excellent. Not too sweet, the cacao was very bitter in contrast and it was actually salty!
