Ok I am going to be totally honest and admit that I wasn’t excited about this sh1t in the slightest.
It has been out for ages and I have seen lots of posts about lolly cakes, all the while here is me scrolling through posts with wide eyes, a half smile on my face and question marks above my head. What the sh1t is a lolly cake?
My puzzled expression had been frozen on my face for weeks until I received a request to try the CookieTime Lolly Cake cookie, dutifully bought one from the shops, opened it and bit into it.
Oooooooh! Right! That’s what a Lolly Cake is!
For those of you who never had the pleasure, or have repressed childhood memories like me, the Lolly Cake is a New Zealand Delicacy made with malt biscuits, ̶d̶e̶c̶i̶m̶a̶t̶e̶d̶ , ̶d̶e̶s̶e̶c̶r̶a̶t̶e̶d̶ ̶ desiccated coconut and the most important ingredient them lollies that are like dried out chalky marshmallows. I think they might be the same as them lollies that were a racial slur but now are called Explorer lollies.
I remembered lolly cake straight away after tasting this because it really does taste like lolly cake, or at least enough like lolly cake that it recalled the impression I have of it so many years after having eaten one.
It was a bit on the soft side, more like a cake, and had a nice grainy coconut texture to go with the coconut flavour that I (now) remember so well. Ample chunks of coloured and dried up whatever those marshmallow lolly things are ( anyone actually know what these type of lollies are called?) further drove the childhood experience home.
Eating Lolly cake is a distant memory, but I think this is close enough to what they taste like and if it is the case that my recollection has degraded over the years, I still say that this is a tasty cookie.
Lol – 7/10
Bonus sh1t: CookieTime is for serious Cookie Munchers
Why so serious? I don’t know – want to know how I got these scars? I ate a cookie that was too big for my face
Bonus sh2t: This Biscuit was made with Real Chocolate and Real ingredients as opposed to artificial chocolate and imaginary ingredients.
