Burgerfuel – The Hybrid

When I was growing up and starting to think more about adult things, a friend showed me something that changed my life forever – a glossy magazine full of pictures. There was one picture in particular that had profound impact, right in the center of the magazine, it folded out into a larger poster size. I had to have it and without even asking I tore it out and hung it on the ceiling above my bed.

That magazine was a car performance mag, the name of which I have long forgotten, but the poster was of the coolest car ever to have been produced. I am speaking of course, about the first widely available commercial hybrid electric vehicles – the 1997 Toyota Prius.

We are well and truly moving on from fossil fuels when even Burgerfuel is moving away from names like the ‘Hamburgini’ and ’Bacon BBQ Roadster’ for more fashionable car themed names like ‘The Hybrid’.

The Hybrid is a ‘hybrid’ (ha clever) of the Bastard burger and the Bio Fuel burger giving us a amalgamation of ingredients including: “NZ beef, juicy pineapple, a perfectly fried egg, tasty bacon, grated beetroot with chia seeds, melted cheddar, fresh salad, BurgerFuel Aioli and sweet tomato relish …

Well sh1t, that is a lot of cargo to haul inside an artisan whole meal bun. Maybe the electric engine component of a hybrid adds a little more torque…

Pulling this big boy out of the ‘ZippyBox’ (which I quite like) it started teetering back and forth threatening to collapse under it’s own weight. Quickly I snapped a few pics before sliding it back into it’s containment packaging, but I fear the damage had already been done.

It was like one of them joke cans with the spring loaded snakes inside of them. Even with my flip top head, I had a hard time eating this. I would recommend NOT opening it up to get a better look. Keep it in the ZippyBox where it belongs. It is a very ugly burger anyways and you can just look at my pics.

I did like it very much though, it was a delicious and decent sized, kaleidoscope of flavours, all of which worked very well together and yes, those ingredients did give me a ‘kiwi burger’ vibe.
